ACT Multi Throttle Induction Packages
An exciting new development ACT can now supply multi throttle carbon fibre induction systems.
The Benefits:
- Instant throttle response, the driving experience will surprise you.
- More BHP and torque throughout the rev range. (on a 5L 10-20+bhp & a similar increase in torque)
- Less heat soak from engine.
- Improved induction noise.
- Looks "the business"
- Air-flow meter can bolt directly onto air-box.

The
main benefit being increased torque as well as increased top end power.
Obviously by just saying these components offer improved drivability,
power, torque and overall performance is not enough and to that end the
components mentioned on these pages have been road tested on TVR V8
sports cars. The following details are supplied based on installations
on three such cars.
Whilst
engine improvement gains are different on each engine the following
power graphs show examples of the performance differences with ACT
components installed.
Click each graph to see a full size picture
This
graph shows the benefits of the trumpets alone - the car had already
been chipped and tuned by Mark adams and this is shown in the lower
curve.

Power graphs - explained
ACT
always like to compare our cars performance figures in BHP and torque.
Even more important is when we compare cars that are the "same".
So the TVR Griffith 500 gives out (according to TVR) 340BHP however
when you go to a rolling road to check this figure out you rarely find
that these figures are achieved.
It
is important to mention that when performing power runs on rolling
roads power figures will vary , depending on various factors such as:
-
state of tune and servicing of engine
-
temperature and atmosphere - dry, humid, rainy, cold etc
-
power loss through the transmission
Engines
tested on bench dynos will give a higher figure than a rolling road ,
even though rolling roads will calculate transmission losses and
can be calibrated to take into account the ambient air temperature and
atmospheric pressure . This is because the engine will have cool air
around it , with cooler inlet temperature. On top of this rolling roads
will vary , however wheel figures are normally fairly consistent .
Typical example
Modified 4.5L Rover V8 ( stage 3 heads) 290 bhp on a bench Dyno . 270 at the flywheel on a rolling road , 220 at the wheels.
Its not surprising that manufacturers often use bench dyno figures.
It
is important that we don't forget Torque ,after all this is what Rover
engines are noted for . When observing a power graph we should pay more
attention to the shape of the torque curve ,rather than max BHP !
